Ha!

So my parents have jumped on the P=MD bandwagon... and now continuously say.. "It'll be ok, just pass, remember P=MD" I think it makes them feel better than it makes me feel. It's like they're relieved that they don't have to worry about whether I get A's ... because they know I can get 70% and PASS. My mom actually sent me this in an email after I sent her the P=MD video (see post below):

Just PA--ass, you'll b e okay... da-da, d-d... just PA-ass... p=MD, just PA-ass... da-da, d-da...

Pretty darn funny, actually!

  1. You know what they call the med student that graduated last in the class don't you?

    "Doctor"

Your approach is good. Don't stress about the classes. Your patients don't care what grades you got in the pre-clinical sciences they just care that you take good care of them.

  2. This comment isn't directed at this post specifically, but your blog more generally.

I recently finished reading Atul Gawande's "Better" and he makes note in this book (and also in his book "Complications") of the importance of writing. Writing poetry or a book or an article for a newsletter or a blog. He emphasizes the importance of writing as a way to organize one's own thoughts and the importance of writing to make your observations of the world around you known to a greater community.

I'm a nontraditional student in the process of applying to medical school (first interview this coming Monday!) so your blog strikes a chord with me. I started a blog back when I was an undergrad, made one or two posts, and then stopped. It felt silly and self-indulgent. I've never been a particularly good writer, so I felt embarrassed to be clumsily expressing myself for world to see. Reading your blog has inspired me to try again.

Thanks for letting us into your head with this blog. It's a fun and interesting place to be!

  3. your mother's email is funny. especially the part where she typed, "Just PA-ass" cause to me, if I never saw the video, i would have thought, 'PA? ass? what?' lol. i need my parents to write me some humorous emails once in a while.
