A New Obsession
Something strange is happening to me. It happens all the time. I can't control it. It's all I can think about. During lecture. While studying. While eating lunch. You know what I'm talking about. Sleep. Yes, folks. Sleep.
Its not that I'm getting so little. Usually at least 5 hours at night, and maybe an afternoon nap for an hour. It's just that I'm stressed I guess.... and maybe sick... so therefore chronically fatigued. But I find myself zoning out during lecture.... fantasizing about how I could just duck down between the rows and prop my head on my backpack, my sweatshirt over me for warmth... and just catch a 10 minute cat nap. Maybe I could sneak to the student lounge while everyone else is in class. Or out to my car... the parking garage is pretty dark... and I could turn the heater on and be toasty warm. Ooh.. I even have contact solution in my bag...
And then something snaps me back to lecture... I take another sip of coffee in vain... and drag my tired butt around for the rest of the day. Nap-less.

I got 9 hours last night. I got 8-9 most nights during my rotations when I didn't have call. I was SO much happier than my first two years when I got 7-8/night.
ReplyDeleteDo yourself a favor and get more sleep. Your brain will work better, you won't have to study as much, you'll get sick less often, you will be able to stay awake during lecture, and you'll feel better in general. It's just stupid to think that 5 hours "isn't so little."
Fight the temptation to compete with your classmates over who sleeps less. You and I both know that this goes on. They're all idiots anyway. Be the smart/mature one who takes care of herself instead.
Just found your blog and its awsome!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new uni student going through my first midterm experience. So far this week I've written three and I'm exhausted and cramming desperate to not loose my footing. The one I wrote this morning I bombed. And I'm convinced it was the lack of sleep. I knew the info, but I'm tired which leads to anxiety which leads to me obsessing intead of paying attention which leads to bombing of exams.
Get more sleep. It does a body good.
