Not adding up

After doing a little math, I realized that I'm not just broke. Im broke broke. Really broke. If I don't spend even 1 extra dollar for the next 4 months I'll barely make it. I need a job. Something part-time and flexible.

Any ideas?

Don't say serving. Been there.

  1. Research. Either find a study to participate in, or find one that is paying med students to do chart review or some such.

  2. I imagine it would be very difficult to work and do med school at the same time. but it would be more difficult to live without $. can you get some sort of research gig with one of your professors? or a campus job where you can study at work (e.g., front desk at library/rec center). I had a friend in college who made decent $ selling her plasma. but she spent most of the $ on cigarettes. I can't recommend anything about that...

  3. Any chance your med school would be interested in having you video tape certain lectures for posting on university site, and/or youtube, then pay you for it?

  4. Count your blessings that you can get financial aid. :)

I just found out that my unemployment ends in 2 weeks, the job I do part time will decrease my hours when they hire someone full time which they are interviewing for in the 18th, the equity in my foreclosed house is gone-baby-gone, and my son moved home.

Things can ALWAYS be worse and I'm sure in your city, you can see that daily.

You'll be okay - promise! You're a survivor, just like me!

  5. babysit professor's kids in the evenings. They go to bed at 8 and you can study! AND it's tax free :)

  6. That is undoubtedly the last thing you need to be thinking about right now. Whatever you do, make sure it doesn't interfere with school, because your situation is temporary. Students are notoriously broke.

Does your school have emergency financial aid? Many schools do. It's not often something that's advertised (I guess so people cannot abuse it).

The ideas above are more respectable than the jobs I'm about to suggest:

If you must get a part time job, it'd be nice if it's the type where you can study a bit while on the job. Babysitting and monitoring tennis courts comes to mind.

Best of luck -- this must be really stressful and tough. I'm sure people have been there before you.
