My journey through medical school, thoughts on medicine, ethics, specialties, pre-med perils, and advice for those who want to do the same.
“"Virus" is a Latin word used by doctors to mean, "Your guess is as good as mine”
"The difference between an itch and an allergy is about one hundred bucks."
"A patient going to a doctor for his first visit was asked, ''And whom did you consult before coming to me?'' ''Only the village druggist,'' was the answer. ''And what sort of foolish advice did that numbskull give you?'' asked the doctor, his tone and manner denoting his contempt for the advice of the layman. ''Oh,'' replied his patient, with no malice aforethought, ''he told me to come and see you.''"
"He's the best physician that knows the worthlessness of the most medicines" Benjamin Franklin
A man speaks frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are only two minutes apart!"
"Is this her first child?" the doctor queries.
"No, you idiot!" the man shouts. "This is her husband!"
I've read your whole blog, I love it!
ReplyDeleteI read it....not sure if I read every single one of your posts but I subscribe through Reader and star the ones I have to catch up on later. And yes, most of your posts make me want to be a doctor (never checked the box though)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read all of anybody's blog.
ReplyDeleteI've read every post since I started subscribing in google reader. I haven't gone through the archives.

ReplyDeleteI've read all of it since my first comment!
ReplyDeleteI've read every post since I subscribed in google reader, and I've read through many parts of the archives. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have read every post.... Ok I may have miss one or to due to ADHD, but I really really have tried to read them all !!
ReplyDeleteI'm subscribed to your blog in Google Reader and really look forward to your posts. I don't know if I've read you're whole blog but I have read a lot of your archives.
ReplyDeleteI've read all of it. I attempt to read many peoples' blogs all the way through. You are one of three I've successfully done it. (You, 6YearMed, and Dr. 10/10). Other ones like Dr. Grumpy's, and a few others that are either pretty completely comedy, all about strange med experiences, ect. I've read back about a year. Whenever I find a blog that I really like it makes me feel...er...complete when I read the entire thing. (Weird, I know.)
ReplyDeleteI've read it for a little while. I love the insights into med school and I can definitely say it makes me want to be a doctor. I also really like the "real profiles" section you started. It gives me hope in these long days of ochem homework and microbiology studying :)
ReplyDeleteI just started reading your blog a week or two ago. I have it set up through a reader so your blog posts get sent to my email.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog since you started. I have it bookmarked and check it out religiously. It's been a great ride. I love how real it is... you talk about struggles and triumphs. It gives me a perspective of what med school will be like in a few short months (AHHHH!!! I'm petrified.. but humbled).
ReplyDeleteI always seem to find something new on this blog that I like. Today, I found out that I can post anonymously, which means I can share and make my opinion heard. This blog is admirable. Keep it up Ella, but not at the expense of school.
I've read the entire blog and numerous entries twice or more. :)
ReplyDeletelove your blog, it is entertaining and encouraging!
Once I started reading, I think I went to the archives and skimmed the older ones unless something caught my attention (ADHD and all).
ReplyDeleteHow about you? How much of MINE have you read :D
Hello! I've started to read your blog from the links on agraphia! I know it's kinda "late" as all these comments were from 2010 but just wanted to say your blog is really amazing! I'm about to start first year undergrad at mcmaster university (in canada where I live!) And yeaaa! I used to think about med or some other research thing as my end game but your blog reminded me that there's way more to life than that! I really hope I could have the same amount of amazing experiences you've had! My travelling dream is to go every country I possibly can and eat the FOOD!! Oh, and buy their stationary :) I'm obsessed with stationary for some reason! So thanks!
