Is it possible to love a future not-yet met nor owned dog as much as you love your first and beloved dog? Or will I never love again? Can you tell I miss my dog more than life?

A Question for the Masses
Is it possible to love a future not-yet met nor owned dog as much as you love your first and beloved dog? Or will I never love again? Can you tell I miss my dog more than life?
I'm considering offering my landlord my firstborn child in exchange for allowing my dog to live here....
Oh, and to explain the socks.... I bought him baby socks for my new place so he wouldn't scratch the floors...

Without a doubt!!!
ReplyDeleteYou just have to allow the future dogs to be themselves and not project the former dog onto them.
My first great forever shall be a great love. I did not think it possible to love another one, nor think one just as grand.
However, Storm, is now almost 8. He has been with me since puppyhood and I do, by all accounts, on all levels, love this dog. He is a baby, a wuss-boy, needy, clingy, licky, submissive, did I mention NEEDY? And is nothing like Tank. At first, I wanted a 2nd Tank (despite that Tank was still with me)... when I let Storm be himself... I finally loved the goofy, flighty, needy great dane.
When I was losing my home, it was not an option to leave them behind or give them up.
I love my dogs almost more than my own life. When school sucks, labs get too long, days too short, I cuddle up next to fur... and life seems balanced again.
And then I do laundry...
thanks... I needed that
ReplyDeleteThat's a really really cute dog but yes you will love your next one just as much as you love that one!
ReplyDeleteaw, that is one adorable dog. I've only had one dog, really. he was, in my mind, the best dog ever. I miss him heaps. I know I'll never have another dog like him, but I know I will have other dogs that I will love and who will be awesome in their own ways. sad to say, I think it will be some years before I get another dog...I expect med school and residency aren't the best time to take this on (having a dog before you start is a different matter, though; if I still had my dog he'd be coming to med school with me!). sorry, I'm making this about me...definitely talk to your landlord, maybe s/he will be ok with your boo moving in after meeting him? and/or paying some pet rent?
ReplyDeleteOne adorable pup. Loving the socks!
ReplyDeleteThere was this article in Bark magazine once that said that everyone has a 'forever' dog. That you can have many dogs over your life and love them all but one will stand out in your heart above the rest and that's your forever dog.
ReplyDeleteMy dog is almost 8 years old, she's my first dog and I truly believe she is my forever dog. It makes me sad to think that she will leave me one day and then some other dog will come into my life.
When I get sad about it I have to remind myself that all dogs are special in their own way and my dog will never really be replaced. But dogs embrace life so I have to assume they want the same from us. And they need love and family just like we do and they want you to be happy and to experience dog joy again. So, you will love your next dog, and even the one after that, I know this is true. But your first dog will keep a special place in your heart and you will never let go of that. It's impossible to ever let go of your forever dog.
The world is over-populated as it is...and dogs are way cooler than kids!
ReplyDeleteI lost a good friend a couple years ago that I raised from a week old (bottle fed and all). It was rough and I vowed never to get another dog, but my parents bought one that I pet-sit for them occassionally and he has found a way through the armor.
You will love the new dog too since they are all special.
Spoil him rotten - they have such short lives!
