Groceries or Microbiology Book?

So I made it through the summer... thanks to my parents chipping in (saving my ass) and a late tax return. But I am down to my last funds which have to pay my August bills... and financial aid doesn't show up for a few more weeks. Microbiology is supposed to be 5 weeks long... and it started today. I need to buy a book... but it was $85 at the bookstore, no used copies, AMSA sale was out, and Amazon still charges $65 + tax, shipping and I'd have to wait for it to get here.

In the end, I said screw it. I bought groceries instead.... and had pasta for dinner. Yay!

  1. We used Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple. There is no way that cost $80. The professors scoffed at it, but it is a) really useful, b) all you need to know for class and / or step 1, and c) it is a great study tool for step 1 as well. It's available on Amazon. Buy it used.

  3. That book was on my student's recommendation list... but I looked through it and it seemed really scant.... And you're right. It's only like $30

  4. hey, I have the Micro Made Ridiculously Simple book - I bought it a few weeks ago because it was on the recommended list and I was trying to find stuff ahead of time on the cheap ($22 on walmart.com - I know, I know...a little piece of my soul dies each time I buy something from Walmart but hey, we're students and they're usually the cheapest). anyhow, my point is that I will have absolutely no use for it until next year, so if you want to borrow it for this year let me know

signed, the new "old" first-year student :)

  7. I got a book. I forgot I could charge my student acct. from the bookstore. Too bad the bookstore doesn't have groceries. :)

  8. I hoped that I wouldn't have to be the one to come along and suggest it, but one may acquire certain academic materials on the cheap (as in "without charge" kind of cheap) from places like demonoid.com and so on. Not that anyone...I...know...would do such a thing *inconspicuous whistling*

  10. amazon prime is free for a year if you sign up with a .edu email address. it's basically free express shipping and the book arrives in 1-2 days!

i hope this helps for next time!
