My journey through medical school, thoughts on medicine, ethics, specialties, pre-med perils, and advice for those who want to do the same.
“"Virus" is a Latin word used by doctors to mean, "Your guess is as good as mine”
"The difference between an itch and an allergy is about one hundred bucks."
"A patient going to a doctor for his first visit was asked, ''And whom did you consult before coming to me?'' ''Only the village druggist,'' was the answer. ''And what sort of foolish advice did that numbskull give you?'' asked the doctor, his tone and manner denoting his contempt for the advice of the layman. ''Oh,'' replied his patient, with no malice aforethought, ''he told me to come and see you.''"
"He's the best physician that knows the worthlessness of the most medicines" Benjamin Franklin
A man speaks frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are only two minutes apart!"
"Is this her first child?" the doctor queries.
"No, you idiot!" the man shouts. "This is her husband!"
That a great order! You'll learn so much on Medicine and Surgery, that you'll look like a pro the 2nd half of the year.
ReplyDeleteoooh, two tough ones first. But think of it this way, you'll just have completed Step I so lots of that info will be fresh in your mind. Plus you'll be very prepared for the other rotations. Keep moving forward :-)
ReplyDeleteAlways try to find *some* bright side.
ReplyDelete1. Surgery (and related shelf) will be easier to understand having done Medicine first.
2. After these 2 first rotations, the rest of 3rd year will be a breeze. Nothing will faze you.
I AM FREAKING TERRIFIED ... I just got my schedule and I have OB/Surgery/then 2 months of medicine. Good luck!
