Step I blows
And I am the worst worst worst student ever. Still not sure when I'm taking it. Supposed to be the 23rd but I'm having a nervous breakdown over it. I talked to the med school rotation coordinator today and he didn't seem all that concerned that I hadn't taken it yet. His attitude was "take your time and we'll make it work. don't worry... at least you aren't having to re-take it like some people" as he waves a (rather large) pile of fail reports at me. Yikes. That doesn't give me that much confidence if that many people in my class have to do a do-over. Especially considering that I suck. Sigh.

You'll do great, Ella. Just believe in yourself!
ReplyDeleteIt's a hard test but doable with studying. UWorld is the best thing ever. Wait til you're ready to take it- I'm sure you'll do great!
ReplyDeleteYour med. school let you advance to third year without taking Step I?
ReplyDeleteWell, it's possible that a lot of students in your class didn't take the exam that seriously, too. I'm sure you'll do fine.
ReplyDeleteYou're scheduled to take Step 1 Sept 23 yet your previous post states you've just had the easiest two weeks ever and ends with the words "yay fake vacation!". What's wrong with this picture?
ReplyDeleteeasies 2 weeks of work ever. which i purposely scheduled so i could study. what is so confusing about that. hence the "fake" vacation part? bc I have to study. and seriously, be rude elsewhere. your tone sucks.
ReplyDeleteNot being rude, just calling it like I see it. Take a full length practice test and look at the score. Is it good enough to get you into the specialty you want? If the answer is yes, quit whining about how much you suck, take the test, and rock out your life in the residency of your choosing. If it isn't good enough to get you into the residency you want? You're three years into medical school, you should now know your optimal studying techniques. Quit whining about how much you suck, bust your ass, and do whatever it takes to bring your score into the range you need. Take a prep course. Take some adderall. Take some more time. Take a brilliant classmate out for drinks in exchange for study help. Again, whatever it takes. Then, go rock out your life in the residency of your choosing. Finally, if you're so certain that you can't take this test and get the score you need, quit whining about how much you suck and figure out how to rock out your life in a less competitive program/specialty. Wallowing in self-pity will get you nowhere fast. Life in med school is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
ReplyDeleteOk, seriously, who the hell is the numbnuts anonymous character? "Quit whining... Take some adderall." Seriously? Adderall? That's the solution?
ReplyDeleteWhen i read the first comment, i was kinda taken aback. The second comment just cemented my view of the anonymous fool above.
Ella, you'll be fine. Keep studying. Keep trying. And take Step 1 when you're ready. And don't bother with negative over-sharers, like our anonymous friend.
Peace babe.
Thanks Nik!
ReplyDeleteto the anonymous dude/dudette
ReplyDeletego "rock out your life" on another blog. no one cares what you think.
Ella,
your fans love you and value your thoughts and opinions. you're an inspiration to pre-medical/medical students everywhere. best of luck on step 1...not that you need it.
Best of luck! Studying forStep I IS a really involved process so be honest with yourself about the work you've done and if you are ready. Pushing it back is no fun but better than failing. Like Red Stethoscope, I am surprised your school let you start rotations before passing. We HAVE to pass before we can start third year and people who have had to take Step I more than twice have to take a year off because there's not enough time to push back two rotations.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, study hard and you will be fine.
